Looking for a Certified Whole Health Medicine Institute Doctor or a Trained Health Care Provider?
Hello!!! It's been long, my fellow health care r/evolutionaries!
I just got off the phone with Heal Health Care Now's Community Manager Ken Jaques. We had a little "state of the union" chat, talking about where the needle is moving and where it isn't, what we can do, what our calls to action are, and how we can do our part as part of this r/evolution.
We've largely ignored this community lately, mostly because we don't know what to do with all you beautiful, passionate, activism-oriented, conscious people! To be honest, I guess I was a bit naive when I started Heal Health Care Now after I published Mind Over Medicine. I guess I thought that if everyone just had a place to find one another, it would take off on its own. I mistakenly though that all the people who email me all the time to say "I'm part of the movement, too! How can I help?" would just find each other here and stuff would spontaneously happen!
But that wasn't the case. Instead, we have thousands of members who have been mostly silent. I trust that we're all doing our own part in our own way though.... and maybe we just aren't communicating about how we're moving the needle in our own communities. I trust our process. And I trust the Organizing Intelligence that makes sure that those of us who are meant to connect are finding each other in our own ways.
Anyway, I wanted to at least update you all on how I'm moving the needle, and how you can help.
I have a vision. We know that healing from chronic illness demands community. It's a paradox. The body can heal itself, but we can't do it alone. It's impossible to heal by yourself. It's too painful to dive into the deep traumas that activate our nervous systems and disable the body's natural self-healing mechanisms. In order to really make our bodies ripe for miracles, we need deep, meaningful, healthy soul tribes. But given that loneliness is the #1 public health issue that doctors aren't talking about much, how do we move the needle on this piece?
I've been getting instructions from my higher guidance for a solution over the past four years, but I've had A LOT of resistance to what I've been guided to do! With that disclaimer, I'm doing it anyway, even though it's a wild experiment and my mind tells me it's unrealistic, doomed to fail, and impossible. (If I let my mind rule my decisions, I'd have never left the hospital in the first place!)
Let me share with you the vision. You know how people struggling with addictions can "12 Step" their addiction in tribes all over the world,- at low or no cost? Well, sick people need their own soul tribes, as widely available as 12 step meetings, at low or no cost. But instead of focusing on what's wrong with us, these tribes need to focus on coming together to THRIVE together. Clear evidence proves that, whether we're sick or not, we need healthy community, as preventive medicine and as part of any medical treatment plan.
Based on what I've been researching for my Sacred Medicine book, the treatments that really work to facilitate "spontaneous" remissions are expensive and only available to the elite who can afford the cutting edge trauma treatment, energy psychology, shamanic treatment, and miraculous healing modalities. Most of these treatments have not hit the mainstream enough to be covered by insurance, so they're only available to a limited number of patients who could benefit from them. This needs to change. Health care should be a right, not a privilege. But needles like this move slowly.
What if Healing Soul Tribes based on the Whole Health Cairn wellness model from Mind Over Medicine were widely available, donation-based or funded by philanthropists, and as effective as the healers who charge $200-500/hour? What if we had "6 Steps To Healing Yourself" programs in addition to 12 step programs? What if healers could offer their gifts in these healing circles, and anyone in need of healing from illness, injury, trauma, or a painful life transition could gather together to help each other heal?
We're experimenting with this in a very limited pilot program right now with people who are interested in being trained as in person group leaders. We have to charge for this program right now, just to cover the overhead, but perhaps one day we'll get outside funding so we can make all of this free. (If you know any philanthropists looking to fund a good cause, send them our way!) We tried to keep the cost as low as we could while still getting this off the ground. But it won't go anywhere unless we have people motivated to actually start the groups! If you or someone you know is interested in leading a Healing Soul Tribe, please join us here.
I spend a lot of my time comparing notes with others who are leading this movement. We all hold different pieces, and it can be overwhelming if I go into the head space of thinking I need to keep abreast of everyone else's piece. So instead of allowing myself to get overwhelmed, I'm getting more and more clear on which pieces are mine - and which are not. What's my piece? It's not banishing for-profit insurance or lobbying for political activism or dismantling Big Pharma or initiating medical malpractice reform. Those things all need to change, but they're not my piece.
What is my piece? I'm here to facilitate healing the healers from the PTSD they don't even know they have, and I'm here to help integrate trauma healing, energy healing, and indigenous healing practices into mainstream medicine so we can access all the tools in our medical toolbox,- both Western medical tools and many other highly effective tools that currently don't exist inside the conventional health care system. I'm really passionate about the piece of deep soul work and trauma healing that can make the body ripe for miracles. I'm totally digging what Richard "Dick" Schwartz, PhD is up to with his IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy work. Dick holds the point of view that physical symptoms or even "accidental" injury can be "protector parts" that are keeping our "exiled parts" safe. Similarly to how I teach in Mind Over Medicine, he has discovered that if you communicate with the symptom or area of pain, it will often reveal to you the root cause of why it's there and what it needs in order to heal. He's even doing research to validate his findings, and the early findings with rheumatoid arthritis are really promising and demonstrating that this approach is an evidence-based technique! Asha Clinton, PhD, a psychologist and former Princeton professor, is using another kind of energy psychology technique as primary treatment for cancer, and it's working! Wow! Cool! William Bengston, PhD (The Energy Cure) is curing cancer in mice by training skeptical grad students with no energy healing experience to do hands on healing work on the mice's cages. And these methods are curing cancer in people too. Bill calls his technique "hocus pocus" and laughs about how silly it all sounds, but it's working. And now he's researching how to store healing energy in pieces of cotton or bottles of water so this kind of healing energy could be mass distributed - at very low cost. He dreams of making conventional cancer treatment irrelevant and defunct. (Whaaaaat???) The rabbit hole I've found myself diving into continues to baffle me and leave me in awe...
I just asked Dick and Asha and Bill if they'd join the faculty for this year's Whole Health Medicine Institute, and they all said yes! I also asked Donna Eden (Energy Medicine) and Gabor Mate, MD (WHEN The Body Says No). I'm super excited about these new friends and practitioners, and I feel really passionate about introducing the pieces they hold to doctors and other health care providers who may be unfamiliar with this cutting edge healing work.
Okay dear ones, I've rambled on long enough! There's more to say but I'll say goodbye for now. I hope to see some of you on Thursday's free call, and maybe I'll meet some of you in person at this year's first Whole Health Medicine Institute retreat in October in Mill Valley!
Lissa Rankin, MD
Are you ready to step up and take your place in the revolution to bring the care back to health care?
As Lissa wrote in her book The Anatomy of a Calling, those of us who are in the Heal Health Care “karass” have been gathering like a swelling tide. What is a karass? Here’s an excerpt from my book:
In Cat’s Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut writes about how God organizes the world into units called a “karass.” A karass is a group of incarnated beings whose job it is to bring into existence one of God’s holy ideas. Members of a karass all further the collective purpose seamlessly, though many never even know they are part of this karass. Even if they never meet, they work together in harmony, in impeccable service to God’s holy idea. Everything about their lives furthers the purpose perfectly, even though they may be furthering the purpose unconsciously. When you meet someone who is a member of your karass, even though it may make no sense to you on a human level, you will recognize them as a family member instantly. Your souls will resonate, even if you appear to have nothing in common on the human level. This is how the Divine gets important things done in the world. Your karass is like a peaceful army that activates to bring light into the world.
Whether you’re a conscious health care provider of any sort, a medical educator, an empowered patient, a caregiver of an empowered patient, or a conscious, concerned activist representing the pharmaceutical industry, the managed care insurance industry, health care policy, a hospital administrator, or health care litigation, if you’re a member of Heal Health Care Now, we assume you are part of the Heal Health Care karass.
Lissa Rankin's Vision
If you're new to Dr. Lissa Rankin's work and you want to understand her offering to health care reform, start by reading Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That The Body Can Heal Itself, and watch her TEDx talks:
(There are more, but we don't want to overwhelm you!)
The Whole Health Medicine Institute
1) The Core Curriculum- This element is based on the Whole Health Cairn and the 6 Steps To Healing Yourself from Lissa's book Mind Over Medicine. The core curriculum exposes health care providers to revolutionary ideas in the sphere of consciousness in medicine and trains them to implement an evidence-based wellness model designed to facilitate not just physical health, but also relational health, health in work, creative health, sexual health, spiritual health, environmental health, financial health, and mental health, all built upon a foundation of your deep connection to the part of you Lissa calls your "Inner Pilot Light." Because these other aspects of Whole Health have been scientifically proven to affect the physical body, we cannot neglect these critical influences on the body's wellbeing.
2) Heal The Healer- Because most health care providers have been traumatized by the medical system, we've found that healing the healer is fundamental to reforming how health care providers approach health. If providers are burned out, sick, disillusioned, suffering from relationship dysfunctions, at the mercy of addictive behaviors, or out of touch with their true purpose, it's hard to overcome the victim mentality that plagues people inside our health care system right now. When the healer heals, the crisis of imagination heals too, and empowered activism pours out from the wide open heart that wants to contribute the healer's gifts.
3) Business Development- Because many health care providers are unhappy inside a sick system, the business development tier of the program is intended to help health care providers explore alternative ways to utilize their health care gifts, either inside or outside the conventional systems. Whether a health care providers dreams of starting a fulfilling micro-business practice, writing books, teaching online programs, leading workshops, delivering keynotes, or reforming health care from the public health, policy, or academic lens, we offer tools to help health care providers find a way to fulfill their calling without sacrificing their integrity or the joy of healing.
What Is Your Role In Healing Health Care?
The Whole Health Medicine Institute is Lissa's personal act of sacred activism. It's Lissa's way of transforming a disease-management system into a Whole Health-inducing model, based on combining science and spirituality, trauma healing and Soul Tribe as medicine for the body, and other evidence-based, health-restoring interventions based on the wellness model she created- The Whole Health Cairn.
But this is just Lissa's role in healing health care. What's YOURS? It's going to take a village to heal health care. What is your part? Please start a profile and tell us what you're doing (or what you dream of doing) to restore Whole Health to a system desperately in need of our love, care, and activism.
What's your role in the village? Maybe you can find others who are working on the part you're working on here. Post in your profile what you're passionate about. Invite others who are passionate about what lights you up to connect.
Healing A Sick System
Spiritual teacher Krishnamurti said, "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." In response, author, philosopher and sacred activist Charles Eisenstein writes:
“If we are to take Krishnamurti at his word, then this epidemic calls for therapies that are social, economic, and political, and not just physical or even mental. In other words, there is a political dimension to the epidemic of [chronic illness.] They alert us to a society that is indeed ‘profoundly sick.’ I believe that we can take Krishnamurti's aphorism a step further. To be well in a profoundly sick society, one must contribute to the healing of that society.”
That is our invitation. Will we feel victimized and complain about a health care system that threatens our health, our dignity, our integrity, and our callings as healers and patients? Or will we rise up to contribute to the healing of that which threatens to disempower us?
We believe that healing health care will require a grass roots effort. We heal health care one healer-patient relationship at a time. How do we do that? Let’s gather the tribe and envision a new future.
This may feel impossible. But we at Heal Health Care Now believe in miracles. We can do impossible things with great love. It starts with YOU. As Margaret Mead famously said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” As Malcolm X said, “When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘WE,' even I-llness becomes WE-llness”.
